In 1816, Sir David Brewster, a renowned Scottish scientist, invented this remarkable instrument during his experiments with light polarization. He combined several Greek words that signified “observer of beautiful shapes” and coined the term “kaleidoscope”. It is truly astonishing how these mirrors can transform loose pieces of glass, beads, and pebbles into captivating vibrant patterns. The colors and patterns are symbols of change and growth. The symmetry of the patterns is a representation of balance and harmony. Kaleidoscopes are often designed with five points, generally the shape is that of a star. Our Masonic Lodges and Eastern Star Chapters have similar traditions using the number five. Eastern Star has five heroines and our Masonic brother’s degree work revolves around our five senses. As each turn reveals something fresh and exciting it reinforces our individual contributions to our organizations. No matter where we come from or the different ideas we may have when we come together as a Masonic Family, we make not only each other stronger, but we make our organizations stronger, but we create a team to benefit the communities we meet in. Let’s EMBRACE our differences with openness and wonder – let’s see where our KALEIDOSCOPES can take us in 2029 and beyond!!!
